GAME SPECIFICS
Game Time
-
Games consist of two (2) x 18-20-minute halves with a short half-time break.
-
Teams change attacking ends at half-time.
Field Boundaries
-
The playing field is approximately 60m x 35m, with an end zone at each end.
-
Field dimensions may vary depending on the venue.
Starting the Game
-
Captains play Scissors, Paper, Rock to determine first possession.
-
The team that does not start with possession will receive the opening pull in the second half.
-
Each point begins with a pull from the defending team.
Scoring
-
A goal is worth one (1) point.
-
A goal is scored when an attacking player catches the disc entirely within the opposition's end zone.
Following each goal:
-
Teams swap attacking directions.
-
The team that scored becomes the defensive team and performs the next pull.
RULE SPECIFICS
Moving the Disc
-
The player in possession of the disc (the thrower) may not run.
-
The disc is advanced by passing to teammates.
-
After catching the disc while moving, players must stop as quickly as possible and establish a pivot foot before throwing.
The Pull
-
Each point begins with a pull from the defending team's goal line.
-
All players must remain behind their goal line until the disc is released.
-
If the pull lands out of bounds, the receiving team may restart from where the disc crossed the sideline.
Possession & Turnovers
A turnover occurs when:
-
A pass is incomplete.
-
The disc is intercepted.
-
The disc lands out of bounds.
-
The thrower is stalled for 10 seconds.
-
The thrower travels.
-
The thrower catches their own throw without another player touching the disc.
-
The receiving team drops the pull.
Following a turnover, the opposing team may immediately take possession from where the disc came to rest.
Stall Count
The marker may count aloud to ten (10) while defending the thrower.
If "ten" is reached before the disc is released, possession changes.
Only one defender may mark the thrower.
In Bounds
Players must establish their first point of contact in bounds when catching the disc.
The disc may travel outside the sideline and return in bounds, provided it is caught by an in-bounds player without touching anything out of bounds.
Non-Contact
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport.
Players may not:
-
Push, hold or block opponents.
-
Create picks or screens.
-
Double-team the thrower.
-
Grab or strip the disc from the thrower's hand.
Defenders may attempt to block or intercept a thrown disc.
Dangerous or unnecessary contact may result in a foul.
Fouls
-
If opposing players catch the disc simultaneously, possession remains with the offensive team.
-
Where possible, players should resolve fouls themselves.
-
If teams cannot agree, the League Host may assist in making a ruling.
