Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about playing with Urban Rec? If you do not find your question here, please feel free to reach out [email protected]

You have come to the right place. Urban Rec is generally for people who are new to sport, or haven't played in a long time. When choosing a league, choose the recreational divsions or leagues. In recreational divisions, our staff go through the rules with all players on week one, and continue coaching throughout the season!

In each city we have a different sports on offer based on our venues, members, and also, what we think you’ll love! Right now, in Melbourne we offer 8 sports. Dodgeball, Soccer, Aussie Rules, Touch Football, Basketball, Netball,  Multi-Sport, and Hockey!

Becoming a member of Urban Rec is simple and free. (If only everything in life was like that – eh?) All you need to do is create an account by clicking on the create account button on our home page. After you are a member, you can pick and choose to register for any league you like. League registration is payable upfront when you register, and that’s the only fee you will pay for the season.

Absolutely! We offer individual registration for most of our sports leagues and locations. All you have to do is wait for the registration period to open and you can sign up on your pat malone (own).

You can even register with a mate or two. Make sure you each select the same team name when registering (each individuals' team has a unique name). To find out more information about individual registration, visit Individual Player/Team FAQ’s.

Urban Rec's refund policy is a simple one, we only offer refunds if we are able to resell your team/individual spot to another team. There is limited spaces for all of our leagues/teams, and if you have registered you’ve taken a spot and this prevents someone else from registering for it.

There is a $50 administrative charge for any team refund and a $25 charge for individuals. If we cannot re-sell your team spot then there are no refunds.

In the event that your spot can be re-sold prior to the league starting, the refund amount will be the full league price minus the admin fee. If the spot is re-sold after the league has started, the refund will be dependent on the pro-rated price that the spot is re-sold for, minus the admin fee.

Urban Rec app is a simple way to check schedules, standings, submit scores and communicate with your team. There is also a special section to activate your member perks. If you attend one of our clubhouses, they may ask you to show your member ID within the app. It’s available to download on Apple and Android.

Urban Rec leagues are all mixed. From time to time we may offer single sex leagues, but we have found making our leagues mixed keeps things, fun, friendly and fair.

We generally don’t hold or keep lost items. If you were playing at a venue, you can try and contact the venue directly. If you were playing at a public facility and the item is important, you can contact use to see if one of our staff members collected it.

We make a decision about the weather at 4pm. Councils usually tell us  if grounds are closed about 3pm, so we give ourselves some time to reschedule the game, and let you know. We do visit location sites to help make this decision as well as consult with councils across the city. But yep – we sometimes get it wrong! Soz about that, we try our best!

If play is cancelled, you will be notified via email. Not all games can be replayed, but we do our best to allow room for some makeup games.

If you are worried about the weather, first wait until after 4:00pm, then contact your team captain to see if they have any news. If there is no update, you will be playing.

Your League Manager will ensure prizes are available at the last game of the season! If something happened and you missed out, contact your League Manager and you can collect from our office or we can arrange to see your team at the first game next season!
